Estonian road trip to Saaremaa (long post)

Our first stop heading on our road trip with Pille and Ron and others was Haapsalu.

We visited a castle

Bear kept Tony/ Pop company while I went into the castle.

We saw some interesting sculptures and shops.

We caught the ferry to Muhu island and drove to the island of Saaremaa. We stayed on a farm called Kuusetuka in cottages.

We had a bathroom and toilet in another hut.

Breakfast was made in the main house kitchen on a wood stove.

The washing up was done outside with water drawn from a well using a bucket.

 Can you see Bear?

What is Tony/Pop doing?

We visited Sorve lighthouse. Can you see it in the background?

Bear hid in the seaweed and we felt the water.

We were glad to stop for a coffee and watch the water.

In Kuressaare we saw a bishop's castle that wasn't in ruins.

It has a portcullis over the entry gate.

More stairs and towers to climb and things to see.

and great views from the ramparts.

This is a balcony like Romeo and Juliet's on the side of the castle wall. It is the only one.

What are these?

We had a roving dinner. This is the first course - goats cheese salad and local craft beer.

We ate dinner watching the sunset over the castle and moat.

On the drive back we stopped at a meteor crater.

We also stopped at an original fishing village from the 1300s that still has people living in it. It is a living museum on Muhu.

What is Tony/Pop looking into?
What is this house used for?

We did and saw some interesting things.

and had something to eat and drink of course!

Tallinn #2

Old Town in Tallinn is a very old walled city.
It is very pretty at night.

It has a lot of towers to climb and walls to walk on. They were built hundreds of years ago.

There are a lot of stairs to climb.

There are a lot of spiral staircases to climb.

Bear liked to look out the vents and windows. What is Bear looking at?

He also had fun on the way down! Be careful Bear!

This is where Bear got lost. We were sad but we I found him waiting for us at the ticket booth for the tower. YAY! We made sure Bear was in the pocket of the bag before we moved.

We walked in the tunnels which have been used for hundreds of years.

Tony/Pop pretended to be an angel.

Bear wanted to try on a knight's helmet. Does it fit Bear?

What do you think is sold or bought at these shops?

We had our last lunch at The Farm. Yum!

Can you find bear? What animals are in the picture?
