Estonian road trip to Saaremaa (long post)

Our first stop heading on our road trip with Pille and Ron and others was Haapsalu.

We visited a castle

Bear kept Tony/ Pop company while I went into the castle.

We saw some interesting sculptures and shops.

We caught the ferry to Muhu island and drove to the island of Saaremaa. We stayed on a farm called Kuusetuka in cottages.

We had a bathroom and toilet in another hut.

Breakfast was made in the main house kitchen on a wood stove.

The washing up was done outside with water drawn from a well using a bucket.

 Can you see Bear?

What is Tony/Pop doing?

We visited Sorve lighthouse. Can you see it in the background?

Bear hid in the seaweed and we felt the water.

We were glad to stop for a coffee and watch the water.

In Kuressaare we saw a bishop's castle that wasn't in ruins.

It has a portcullis over the entry gate.

More stairs and towers to climb and things to see.

and great views from the ramparts.

This is a balcony like Romeo and Juliet's on the side of the castle wall. It is the only one.

What are these?

We had a roving dinner. This is the first course - goats cheese salad and local craft beer.

We ate dinner watching the sunset over the castle and moat.

On the drive back we stopped at a meteor crater.

We also stopped at an original fishing village from the 1300s that still has people living in it. It is a living museum on Muhu.

What is Tony/Pop looking into?
What is this house used for?

We did and saw some interesting things.

and had something to eat and drink of course!
